For the first time since the Penal Code was established in 1907, the revised Penal Code, which was overhauled to toughen penalties for sex offenses, came into force on July 13, 2017.
1907年(明治40年)の刑法制定以来初めて、性犯罪の厳罰化のため大幅に見直された改正刑法が、2017年7月13日に施行された。

The requirement that a complaint be filed by the victim before public prosecutors can indict a suspect in a sex crime was dropped under the revised Penal code.
改正刑法で[刑法の改正で]、性犯罪の容疑者を検察が起訴する前に被害者の告訴を(必要)条件とする「親告罪」の規定が、撤廃された。

Under the revised Penal Code, the crime of robbery and forcible sex and other acts, which carries a penalty of life imprisonment or a minimum of seven years, can be applied regardless of which crime was committed first.
